Getting to know Mrs. Stierley
Originally from Livonia, MI, I moved to East Lansing to attend Michigan State University in 2003. After living and studying in Santander, Spain for the summer of 2006, I graduated from Michigan State University in 2007 with a B.A. in Spanish and a minor concentration in English. I loved the East Lansing area (and the MSU sports teams), so I stayed around and completed my student teaching year at Holt Jr. High in both Spanish (8th grade) and English (7th grade). The next year I was hired at the Jr. High to teach 8th grade English, and I couldn't have been happier!
In 2010 I graduated from MSU with my M.A. in Language and Literacy Instruction, and during the 2010-2011 school year, I took a step back to my Spanish beginnings by adding a 7th grade Spanish exploratory class to my day. Last year, I taught Spanish 1 for 8th graders, and this year I am back to two classes of our 7th grade Spanish class! It has been quite the whirlwind!
My schedule for the 2013-2014 school year is:
- Intervention Period
- Prep hour
- Intro to Spanish - 7th grade
- English 8
- English 8
- English 8
- Intro to Spanish - 7th grade
During the winter sports season, you will find that I my afternoons are dedicated to coaching the Varsity Gymnastics team for Holt High School. I am beginning my 7th season as head coach, and I am so excited by the talent and passion that my girls bring to the team. Because of the time commitment in the afternoons, I am happy to make myself available before school any day for personalized help and instruction if Intervention Period and lunch are filled with receiving help for another class. Please contact me to schedule a day and time.
